Another whale with braces

I discovered that I can use a tube of something called Cerne Relief to make the “wire.” Much easier than drilling holes and using actual wire. I bought the tube on clearance years ago and never used it until a few weeks ago. Now I love it. And that, my friends, is why I hoard art supplies.

Powder Blue Tang

Powder Blue Tang. Every once in a while I take a break from completely making stuff up and create a piece based on an actual species. This is loosely based on a fish called the powder blue tang. Of course, I took some artistic license.

2021 goal: keep the studio more organized.

Just got the red and blue storage bins and added my sign to the main wall. When I’m working, I tend to make a huge mess which accumulates until I’m out of desk space. Trying to keep things tidier and more organized.

Big sea turtle!

Cutting it out and the first coat of paint were easy. Free handing the pattern on the shell took forever but I like how it turned out.

Blingy King Roy G. Biv

Because what’s the point of being wooden fish royalty if you don’t have a massive amount of rhinestones on your teeth and crown?

Weather-resistant sharks!

By popular demand, I made some weather-resistant sharks. These are cut from naturally rot-resistant cedar and finished with 6 coats of a marine-grade varnish to withstand the elements. Oh yeah, and the teeth are made of bike chains.

Eely Dan

I thought of the name before I even had an idea of what this would look like. I wanted vague eel-ness.

Royal tern. Commissioned.

My buddy wanted to thank some friends for hosting his family at their their beach house and commissioned this piece. Made from salvaged wood, field turf, wire, glass tile. Love putting shoes on birds because a) it looks cool and b) bird feet are hard.

Too much plywood = make giant fish

I got tired of looking at the massive stack of plywood in my garage so I started making supersized pieces. Here’s the first. It takes a long time to sketch, cut out, and paint these. But it’s rewarding to have slightly less plywood.

Righting some wrongs

Both of these used to be different fish. They hung on the wall for a while, I wasn’t quite sure about them. Eventually, I flipped them over and redid the other side and now I like them.
